Tutorial on verification of seasonal forecasts

University of Cantabria and MeteoSwiss have put together a tutorial to illustrate how to download seasonal forecast data from the ECOMS User Data Gateway and how to verify these forecasts using R packages developed as part of the EUPORIAS and SPECS projects.
The ranked probability skill score (RPSS) for summer (JJA) ECMWF System4 forecasts initialized in May against the verifying observations from the WFDEI dataset for the period from 1991 to 2000. Stippling indicates where the ECMWF forecasts have significant (at the 5% level) skill.
