Semi-operational climate services

Over the course of the last four years EUPORIAS developed a set of six prototypes of climate services operating on the seasonal time scale. The prototypes were designed and developed to meet the needs of a well identified community of users and to deliver a semi-operational prediction of the relevant impact variable.

In only one case the environmental conditions (both natural and socio-economic) prevented the prototype to deliver the prediction as it was intended. Even so the project delivered twice the number of climate impact predictions that it promised to deliver in the Description of Work.

Deliverable D42.3 is a demonstration deliverable which is thus met directly through the delivery of the predictions. The report that you find here summarises the key stages of development of the prototype predictions, highlights the role the users played in shaping the service and identifies a few key lessons learnt.
